Resumo em outra língua: In this dissertation, we investigated by means of first principles calculations, the correlation between structural and electronic properties in wormholes made of monolayer and bilayer graphene. The computational tool used in our investigation was the SIESTA (Spanish Initiate for Electronic Simulations with Thousands of Atoms) method, which is an implementation of Density Functional Theory (DFT). The proposed geometries for the wormholes are formed by the union of carbon nanotubes between flat graphene regions, such that the junction region presents distinct curvatures and topological defects (heptagonal rings). We investigate the effects on the electronic structure that are due to: the connection of graphene planes through the tube; the curvature; the interaction between bilayers; the length of the nanotubes; the wormholes interaction with periodic images in a triangular lattice. We found that: (i) the connection of planes through the nanotubes (formation of wormholes) leads to a completely different electronic structure from that of the defective graphene; (ii) the curvature of the nanotube / graphene junction is crucial for the confinement electron states in the nanotube region; (iii) the electronic structure of the double layer wormholes is very different from the superposition of the electronic structure of the single layer wormholes that form them; (iv) the interaction between wormholes in a triangular lattice leads to the opening of gaps whose value decreases asymptotically with the distance between neighboring wormholes. The shape of bands near the Fermi level is well described by simple first-neighbor model inspired by the tight-binding method.
