Resumo em outra língua: This Masters dissertation investigates the relationship between the portrait aesthetics proposed by the philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy and the work of the Italian-Brazilian filmmaker Andrea Tonacci (1944-2016). Therefore, we initially seek to understand how the image fits into the philosopher’s thought and then discuss the aesthetics issues placed by the pictorial portrait mediated by two of his main texts about the subject: Le Regard du Portrait (2001) e L’Autre Portrait (2014). Beginning with concepts such as image, mimesis, ground, distinct, autonomous portrait, other portrait, methexis, being-singular-plural, identity, resemblance, evidence and a discussion around the philosophy of the subject performed by Nancy, we seek for an interpretative key or a possible path to discuss The Hills of Disorder (2006). It is one of the most striking works amongst the whole career of Andrea Tonacci and the complexity and variety of topics that are covered by his film suggest various investigative paths. However, we do not intend to produce an unambiguous interpretation of the work of a filmmaker through philosophical concepts, but otherwise search for a possible way, enlightened by the texts of Jean-Luc Nancy, to go through a very profuse film that repels any kind of totalizing interpretation. Therefore, there is no intention to propose direct analogies between the pictorial art and Tonacci’s cinema, but otherwise to investigate the possibilities that the portrait genre offers to discuss The Hills of Disorder. Furthermore, we believe that Tonacci’s film enhances the possibilities of qualifying certain questions raised by Nancy’s philosophy by means of a discussion centered on the Brazilian context. Especially if we consider that the work in question has as protagonist named Carapiru – an Awá Guajá indian who survived a massacre and spent 10 years of his life wandering alone, because he believed to be the last survivor of his people.
